In May 2026, Andy’s entered a new chapter when Jonny Rizo became the new owner. With deep respect for the shop’s history and legacy, Jonny’s vision is to restore Andy’s Pet Shop to the beloved community landmark it once was.

In 2007, longtime animal lover Lissa Shoun took over Andy’s with a heartfelt mission: transforming the store into an adoption center focused on giving animals a second chance at loving homes.
As the retail world changed and financial pressures mounted from big-box and online competition, Andy’s faced difficult challenges. The beloved shop relocated to Notre Dame Avenue, continuing to serve the community until the property was eventually sold to make way for new residential development.
Even through uncertain times, the spirit of Andy’s — compassion, community, and love for animals — never disappeared.

Andy’s Pet Shop began as a dream shared by Andy and Geraldine Camilleri in 1950. Nestled on The Alameda in San Jose, Andy’s quickly became more than just a pet store — it became a cherished part of the community and a place where generations of families found their very first companions.
From playful puppies and curious kittens to unforgettable exotic animals like monkeys, toucans, ocelots, and macaws, Andy’s created memories that lasted a lifetime. For many longtime residents, a visit to Andy’s was a magical experience, made complete by the iconic neon macaw sign proudly glowing above the store.
